Music Corrections & Updates

No chorus should feel that they must drop out of either the competition or mass chorus concert. Every voice, including yours, should and must be heard to continue promoting and advancing German culture and tradition through music and song. What heritage are you leaving for you grandchildren? Show them what it meant when you or your parents left their heimat for greener pastures. They had to work hard and fight for their existence but still had time to join with others in a tribute to Gemütlichkeit, Freundschaft, and Kameradschaft.

Sängerfest Prize Song Corrections

For the past two years the Music Directors of the New York State Sängerbund choruses, under the direction and guidance of the Bundes Music committee, have submitted the music to be considered for inclusion in the 2012 Sängerfest Prize Singing Competition. Much thought, discussion, and deliberation went into the rating and selection of these songs. Many different musical professionals reviewed all of the approximately 100 pieces of the original music. If you discover any errors please notify us and we will post any corrections here.

The competition music was selected to stimulate good choral presentation and to promote and encourage more participation by all choruses of the Sängerbund. If your Music Director finds any other problems, or has any further questions, please contact the NYSSB Bundes Music Committee Chairperson Gail Miller. Thank you for your continued support, cooperation, and patience.

Gemischterchor 1st Class
Das letzte Lied

There is a solo part in 5 systems starting in the 4th system on page 4 of 5 and ending in the 3rd system on page 5 of 5. Each of these five systems has three lines. Since solos are not permitted in competitive singing, all parts must be sung by multiple voices, we have developed the following solution with two choices:

1 -

1st Sopranos sing the top line through the 5 systems. 2nd Sopranos and Altos sing the middle line through the 5 systems. Tenors and Basses sing the bottom line through the 5 systems. Again, all parts must be sung by multiple voices.

2 -

Choose another song in the Mixed Chorus 1st Class list of songs.

Männerchor
Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz

There is a slight error in the required men's song Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz. In the 8th and 9th measure is the word gefallt which should be spelled with an umlaut over the a as in gefällt.

The music has been updated here on the sängerfest website but if you just write in 2 dots (an umlaut) over the letter a in the 9th measure on your music you will be correct and save a bunch of time in reprinting the music.
